Closet organisation at home with you!

We’ve compiled our favourite closet organisation hacks as seen in your homes! Plus a homemade closet freshener recipe that takes a couple of minutes to make.

Tidying up is often one of those jobs that means clutter gets relegated to the closet, but there are ways to make it easier to keep things in order! With a few clever, easy to follow tips, a few storage solutions and some ideas from Olli Ella customers, you can transform your bedroom closet storage with just a little bit of effort. To keep things smelling as fresh and beautiful as they look, we’ve also included the recipe for a homemade closet freshener that takes a couple of minutes to make.

Closet Storage Hacks As Seen In Your Homes

One of our favourite and most versatile baskets, the Luggy comes in a range of charming designs with different sizes to suit every member of the family. If you’re looking for some serious storage space, the adult Luggy is the perfect choice. Not only does it have a spacious interior (that can hold up to 25 kilos of whatever you need to store!), but it also comes with nifty wheels on the bottom. You can display whatever you like inside, then bring it down and move it wherever you want with very little effort.

If you’re looking for little-hand-friendly basket storage, something like our Piki rattan basket might be just the thing! Large enough for all the important bits, like your little one’s toys or most-loved accessories, while still being small enough for them to carry themselves.

TIP: Create little closet compartments with baskets in matching colours

If you have a cabinet with plenty of open space inside but it’s lacking drawers, it can get a little messy inside. To make things tidy and easy to access without having to go digging around more than you’d like to, cluster some baskets in matching tones together.

Sort your baskets' contents based on season (like packing away little jackets for winter and shorts and tees for summer) or keep your little one’s toys tucked away at their height so they can get them out to play when they like.

TIP: After your little one has outgrown the baby changing basket, store little socks and baby clothes and place on top or inside a drawer unit

If you have one of our changing baskets, they’re a multi-purpose piece of storage that doesn’t stop being useful when you’re past the nappy stage! Whether they’re used on a coffee table, added to your child’s bedroom for keeping their dolls and teddies, or added to the wardrobe on a shelf for storing clothes, they’re made to last.

Enjoy them for years to come and be creative with where you place them - storage is a little experimental, and what you need will evolve and grow with your little one!

Homemade Closet Refresher Recipe

If you’re looking for a fun, simple activity to do at home that also enhances your storage, consider adding a homemade closet refresher to your wardrobe or drawers. Whether you have little organza bags lying around or are crafty with a needle and thread, they’re a perfect activity for little hands.

You’ll need:

  • A bag or some fabric and a needle and thread to create a little pocket with.

  • ¼ cup of herbs per refresher.

  • ¼ cup of rice per refresher.

  • (Optional) some essential oils to top up your herbs with.

Choose up to a quarter of a cup of herbs that are beautifully fragrant. Make sure they’re fully dry before putting them into your little bag. We love all the herbs you find in the garden, whether that’s rosemary, lavender, sage or thyme; you can get creative!

Create a custom mix that you love, then mix it through an equal quantity of rice. You can add a few drops of essential oil if you like, which can help keep them smelling wonderfully fresh for longer, then tie or sew your bag up. Then, you can pop it in the drawers between clothes or hang them off a coat hanger in the wardrobe.
