How to care for your Dinkum Dolls

How to care for your Dinkum Dolls

Like all of us, even a Dinkum Doll needs a little TLC every now and then! Being a Dinkum BFF can be a bit messy from time to time. Whether it’s dirt from garden adventures, paint from those artistic afternoons, messy hair or sticky hands from sharing snacks, eventually it’s time for a little refresher! Luckily, from washing to hairstyling, we're here to answer all those Dinkum Doll care tips you've ever wondered or asked about! You can take care of everything yourself or make it a spa day with your little one and their Dinkum doll companion - it’s totally up to you.

Care for your Dinkum Doll

Those Dinkum Dolls sure do know how to have a good time out and about with their kiddo counterparts! This does mean that sometimes they end up a little grubby (it's all part of the fun!). We don’t think that cleanliness should come at the cost of enjoying all those important adventures, so here are our top tips for keeping your Dinkum Doll sparkling with joy!

To Machine Wash

If you’d like to go for the easiest route and avoid manually bathing your Dinkum, it’s very simple to pop them in the wash to get all freshened up. We recommend sticking to a handwash for the most part to keep these little companions in top condition.

If their outfits are looking a little worse for wear from all those activities, we recommend removing their outfit and putting them in the washing machine at the same time.

  • 01Place in pillowcase
For when your little one’s Dinkum is really in need of a deep wash, you can put them in the washing machine on a gentle cycle. If you have a garment bag, that’s a wonderful way to protect them while they’re in there. Otherwise, a pillowcase is good, too, but make sure it’s secured at one end so they’re protected! To buffer them a little during the spin cycle, you can put them in with a towel or two to help reduce the impact of the washer.
  • 02Seal
To get your child involved in the cleaning up process, encourage them to make sure their Dinkum doll is securely inside. You don’t want them escaping before their bath is done!
  • 03Wash
Choose a mild detergent and make sure to avoid fabric softener or anything with bleach in it. A cold, gentle cycle is best. This keeps Dinkums in top condition, preventing their hair from getting stiff or unruly after their wash day!
  • 04Comb
After all that soap and movement in the washing machine, Dinkum hair can look a little crazy! Give your little one a Dinkum brush and let them get to work. Now is the perfect time to restyle their hair and make them look their best again.
  • 05Style
There’s nothing like a clean outfit after a big bath or shower, and now’s the perfect time for your child to put their favourite Dinkum clothing on their friend!
  • 06Be careful!
Each Dinkum Doll comes with special embroidered details, like their sweet little Rainbow heart. Be mindful that the stitching and fabrics may wear over time. We do not recommend repeated machine washing.

 To Spot Clean

Sometimes a full bath in the washing machine isn’t necessary, and a little spot clean up will do.

  • 01Brush
Even if their hair is looking pretty tidy, it’s worth giving it a brush out to remove any fluff or dust. Once again, use a gentle, soft-bristled brush to detangle after removing any hair accessories they might be wearing.
  • 02Remove Clothing
Regardless of where you need to spot clean, removing your Dinkum Doll’s clothing first makes it easier. If they need a little refresher too, pop them in a garment bag and put them in the next gentle wash cycle you clean your own laundry with.
  • 03Wet a cloth
Take a cotton or microfibre cloth and wet it up with warm water.
  • 04Apply
Now, you can add a little soap to your damp cloth and apply it to the grubby spots on your Dinkum doll that need cleaning.
  • 05Lather
Using circular motions, lather the detergent into the parts of the Dinkum Doll you would like to spot clean...
  • 06Repeat
You don’t need to go overboard with the soap, just apply it once, then keep blotting with a damp cloth to remove any dirt and soap residue.

Hooray! Ready to style their hair however you choose.
